Bootleg Collection 2: Marauding Midnight

Inspiration for our Marauding Midnight Tee was drawn (or Bootlegged) from the cover-art of what may arguably be one of the BEST Hip Hop Albums of all time, A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders.  The tee offers a literal interpretation of LAX-JFK in the form of Hip Hop, accompanied by the Bootleg Mixtape by Sean G.

Bootleg Collection 2 will be available at www.LAX2JFK.com August 9th at 8:00am.  Design leaks all week… stay close.

The Bootleg Mixtape by Sean G

When thinking of a DJ to tackle the task of the Bootleg Collection II Mixtape, we came up with one man… Sean G.  A pedigree of a DJ and not just some put-the-latest-hottest-shit-from-the-radio-on-so-her-butt-shakes type of DJ.

The concept for the Mixtape was simple, LAX-JFK in the form of Hip Hop music.  We start with an L.A. joint, then go to NY, then back to L.A., then NY and so on and so on…  Borrowing (or Bootlegging) ATCQ’s iconic Midnight Marauders album cover and replacing it with our very own Marauding Midnight list of MC’s, which will also serve as a concept for an upcoming t-shirt design dropping August 9th.  Obviously it’s IMPOSSIBLE to feature all of our favorite MC’s, but we think this is a fair assessment.  You’ll note the obvious bias to a particular era of Hip Hop, but what can I say I’m OLD AS F*CK!

Bootleg Collection II Zarape Inspiration

Posted in LAX-JFK Private Label with tags , , , , , on May 19, 2012 by LAX-JFK

If you follow us on Twitter (LAXtoJFK) or Instagram (also LAXtoJFK), you’ve seen sneak peaks of patterns & looks that inspired our latest collection (slated to drop in a couple of weeks).  We’re staying away from conventional Seasons, dropping pieces when we’re ready to do so…

Our Inspiration featured here is very personal to us.  We’re second generation Mexican-Americans… Mexican first and American second.  Just the way it is, with no political undertone.  Having said that, we’ve ALWAYS been inspired by the fabric of Mexico.  Vibrant colors, defined lines, geometric shapes… It’s all good.

Are you all over the Allover Prints?  We’re not!  Our Zarape tee & tanks feature the Fabric of OUR lives, tweaked for the urban kids in mind.  If you’re not rocking this in the summer, I may not be kicking it with you anymore.

Collection will be available on www.LAX2JFK.comTradition (Thousand Oaks, CA) and Brooklyn Projects (Melrose, L.A.).  Stay tuned to our blog for more info.

Bootleg Collection II Rags to Crowns Inspiration

If you follow us on Twitter (LAXtoJFK) or Instagram (also LAXtoJFK), you’ve seen sneak peaks of patterns & looks that inspired our latest collection (slated to drop in a couple of weeks).  We’re staying away from conventional Seasons, dropping pieces when we’re ready to do so…

Our Inspiration featured here comes from two of the most recognizable icons of Hip Hop, Tupac & Notorious B.I.G.  A repeat theme for us here at LAX-JFK, first in Spring of 2010, then in the Spring 2011 and in Crewneck/Hoodie from the Bootleg Collection I.

Are you all over the Allover Prints?  We’re not!  Our Rags to Crowns tee & tanks feature Tupac’s staple head-bandana & B.I.G.’s Crown in a monogram style (great wallpaper, feel free to rip).  Available in 3-colorways each, don’t sleep they will fly out the door.

Collection will be available on www.LAX2JFK.comTradition (Thousand Oaks, CA) and Brooklyn Projects (Melrose, L.A.).  Stay tuned to our blog for more info.

Wayback Wednesdays X Bootleg Collection II Stacks is High Inspiration

Posted in LAX-JFK Private Label, music, Wayback Wednesdays with tags , , , , , on May 2, 2012 by LAX-JFK

Today we have a hybrid post (if you will), taking you on a Wayback Wednesday and talking Inspiration for the Stacks is High t-shirt.  With Jay Dee on the Beat, Maseo on the wheels, Posdnuos & Trugoy on the Mics, how can you NOT be inspired?

If you follow us on Twitter (LAXtoJFK) or Instagram (same handle), you’ve seen a sneak peak of patterns & looks that inspired our latest collection slated to drop in a couple of weeks.  We’re staying away from conventional Seasons, dropping pieces when we’re ready to do so…

Our inspiration featured here is taken from what may arguably be one of the BEST Hip Hop Songs/Albums of all time, back when lyrical content meant more than a butt-shacking beat or catchy hook.

For this project, we’re presenting a “flip” on the design I’m sure you’ll find provocative.

Collection will be available on www.LAX2JFK.comTradition (Thousand Oaks) and Brooklyn Projects (Melrose, L.A.).  Stay tuned to our blog for more info.

Bootleg Collection II Marauding Midnight Inspiration

If you follow us on Twitter (LAXtoJFK) or Instagram (same handle), you’ve seen a sneak peak of patterns & looks that inspired our latest collection slated to drop in a couple of weeks.  We’re staying away from conventional Seasons, dropping pieces when we’re ready to do so…

Our Inspiration featured here is taken from what may arguably be one of the BEST Hip Hop Albums of all time, Midnight Marauders.  If you watched ATCQ’s doc, Beats, Rhymes & Life, you remember the discussion sorrounding which artists made the Album Cover.  Some sour grapes, some grateful MC’s, all great material.

For this project, we plan to feature our picks.  Some repeats, some others that deserve mention.  Obviously it’s IMPOSSIBLE to feature all of our favorites, but we think this is a fair assessment.  I’m sure this tee will provoke discussion and debate, let’s go.

Collection will be available on www.LAX2JFK.com, Tradition (Thousand Oaks) and Brooklyn Projects (Melrose, LA).  Stay tuned to our blog for more info.
