Jaylip: Earl Sweatshirt

Posted in JayLip with tags , , , , , , , , on February 6, 2013 by LAX-JFK

So… what can we say about Earl Sweatshirt?  We can speculate some?  Comment on his disappearance?  Naw… we’ll leave that to y’all.  Let the man speak for him self.  Personally, I can’t wait to hear more from this kid.  New single “Chum” is shitting on a lot of rappers “doing it” nowadays.  Probably the most popular answer when we’ve asked musicians on past JayLips who they’d like to collaborate with… enjoy.

JayLip is an urban slant on the 10-questions interview format made famous by James Lipton on In the Actor’s Studio.  Our interview follows the same general rhythm, sort of a ping-pong line of questions spanning from love to hate and mortality.  My favorite part of this video has to be when “security” scolds Earl for sitting on “priceless art” crates, immediately followed by a colorful rant about what he (Earl) thought of said art.

“Them’s some nice ass pants my ni&&a.”

JayLip: Freddie Gibbs

We linked up with Gangster Gibbs a couple months ago at LACMA’s Behind the Mic for another installment of JayLip, shoutout Josh the Goon for the hospitality.  Gibbs was strapped with wit and honesty and wasn’t really interested in holding back or keeping anything P.C.  Watch him break into song at one point in the interview, definitely one of our favorites.  Thanks for the time…

“Here go the weed and here go the bitches… God is my n*gga…”

… and don’t forget to grab Gibbs’ latest, BFK.

Owning a brand is more than a job nowadays, it’s a lifestyle.  One of the opportunities afforded, should you be so lucky, is meeting/making relationships with artists, designers and other brands, both inside and outside of the realm of your specialty, that’s lifestyle.

A while back we met this cat Cavalier.  Boasting, “The best kept secret in rapp,” his style is personified in his rhymes as a Fashion Aficionado, teacher, shaman, chief and rapper.

He was kind enough to sit with us for another installment of JayLip, alongside a sleeping (rather passed out) Quelle Chris!  HAHAHA!  JayLip is an urban slant on the 10-questions interview format made famous by James Lipton on In the Actor’s Studio.  Our interview follows the same general rhythm, sort of a ping-pong line of questions spanning from love to hate and mortality.

For this installment we caught up with Fresh Daily in from NY working with one of our favorites Quelle Chris and Cavalier on their upcoming project Stone Horses.  You can download Fresh’s latest, Brooklyn Goodguys here.  Enjoy.

JayLip: House Shoes

House Shoes is a household name in the world of Hip Hop.  A Producer’s Producer, a DJ’s DJ and Detroit’s Hip Hop Ambassador to the World.  Still bringing that True Grit to the tables and your ears, never on some I-just-gotta-play-this-SHIT-to-make-the-girls-butts-shake-SHIT.

We were on deck for both the Listening Party at Turntable Lab for The Time EP and most recently the Album Release Party at Speakeasy for Let It Go.  EPIC nights with performances from Quelle Chris, MED, Oh No, Alchemist and Cos among others.  If you haven’t bought his shit, you should buy his shit…

He was kind enough to humor us with his colorful wit and sharp words on our latest installment of JayLip.  Peep while he pisses off some and pays homage to others.  Always a good convo with this dude, SALUTE HOUSE SHOES!
